Mississauga Health, Summerville Family Health Team, Credit Valley Family Health Team, and Trillium Health Partners Women’s & Children’s Program have partnered on a community-based Paediatric Care Clinic. This clinic is focused on alleviating emergency department pressures by offering timely in-person care from nurse practitioners for flu-like symptoms on the same day or next day, if possible. This may include self-care advice or prescriptions. The Mississauga Paediatric Care Clinic is a free service available to children and youth aged 6 months to 17 years who do not have a family physician or whose family physician does not offer after-hours care for non-urgent health concerns. These include common minor illnesses and health concerns such as coughs, colds, flu-like symptoms, ear infections, gastrointestinal issues (e.g., nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach aches), skin rashes, mild asthma symptoms, and minor injuries.

What are the symptoms treated at our clinic?

Fever or chills

Cough/flu like symptoms (not related to other causes such as allergies)

Runny nose or nasal congestion

Decreased or loss of taste or smell

Headache/Sore throat/Ear infection

Muscle aches or joint pain

Gastrointestinal symptoms (such as vomiting or diarrhea)

Abdominal pain

Skin rash

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

When do I bring my child to the emergency department?
If your child develops severe symptoms (see symptoms below), call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.
For children, severe symptoms include:

Working hard or straining to breathe – for example, the lower chest is moving in more than normal when the child breathes, the child is grunting, or the child’s nostrils are flaring

Bluish skin
-
Unable to breastfeed or drink
-
Very sleepy or difficult to wake

Peeing less than usual
-
Fever with rash
-
Seizures or convulsions
-
Fever in an infant younger than 3 months
